UK-based musician Pavel Doronin returns with Dill, a new EP that turns scent, domestic detail and half-remembered feeling into slow, tactile ambient music.
“One day, I was chopping dill and the smell just pulled me straight back to my mother’s cooking. It was like being dropped into childhood again. I wanted the EP to hold that feeling: a small reset, a return to curiosity, something I can step into when I need to.” - Pavel Doronin
Doronin treats that sensation as a kind of respawn point: not nostalgia-as-comfort, but a return to a clearer emotional state. Across the EP, vintage 80s synthesisers blur into close-mic’d fragments of everyday life - cutlery, safety matches, keys - as if memory is replaying itself in scraps and flashes, then stretching out into something slow, immersive and strangely restorative.
Following last year’s debut single “Seagull” (a collaboration with pianist Aliya Lark), Dill pushes further into Doronin’s more experimental territory — intimate electronics with an almost physical sense of space, where the smallest sound can carry the heaviest weight.
Active since the mid-’90s, Doronin has spent years releasing and performing under various monikers; recording under his own name is a deliberate reset — a quieter, more inward chapter built from minimalist motifs, field recordings and time-bending textures. His music moves like an internal monologue: patient, close-up, emotionally loaded without ever raising its voice.
