Echo Vocation - Replicants Dilemma

Newly released, and playing on M.P.R Chill, is the track 'Replicant's Dilemma (Live Version)' by Echo Vocation.

Echo Vocation is the latest solo music project of Denver-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Johnson. Adrian primarily performs downtempo / fusion / ambient / synthwave / Berlin School electronica under the Echo Vocation moniker. He uses traditional instruments such as guitar (with looper), bass, violin, guzheng, and kalimba with experimental modular synth patches to create evolving soundscapes. Adrian spends a lot of time writing software and working on visual art, so some of his music is inspired by what he likes to listen to during those activities (and is meant for background listening), while other tracks are intended for more active listening.

The instrumental track “Replicant’s Dilemma” is the title track and first single released from an upcoming synthwave EP (scheduled for release on December 6, 2024). The song changed during the past three months of live gigs including sets at the local “Freq Boutique” modular synth and techno meetup, a two hour downtempo set at a kava bar, and an experimental music set at an art gallery. “Replicant’s Dilemma (Live Version)” released on August 19, 2024 and is available on all major music streaming platforms.

Adrian found himself exploring modular synths after a post-covid autoimmune condition (mixed connective tissue disease) robbed him of the dexterity needed to play guitar and violin. Once he was able to manage MCTD and return to playing instruments, he started to discover new ways of looping, glitching, sequencing, and mutating sounds from his hexaphonic and MIDI guitars that inspired him to create a new tonal palette. Adrian is using Eurorack hardware to allow his guitar to interact with other elements of a track, giving him more flexibility during his semi-improvised live sets. Adrian’s major influences are as varied as Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, Joe Satriani, Tangerine Dream, King Crimson, Daft Punk, and The Midnight - and the combination of these influences is heard in many of his tracks.
